OCT 9 EXHIBIT AT MODUS FINE ART
PLEASE JOIN ME for the opening of my show BOTANICAL KALEIDOSCOPE with artist TOBY KEOUGH at MODUS FINE ART GALLERY in Coeur D'Alene!

This is my first featured show at Modus, and I am thrilled to share 8 new paintings with you, set up in the gallery as three installations. Toby's botanical paintings are vibrant and jubilant, and it's fun to see how our paintings compliment each other.
In planning this collection, I really wanted to take advantage of the tall ceilings and expansive walls in the Modus gallery space. This was a great experience for me as an artist, pushing my boundaries with the scale of the paintings, and a bit of experimentation with techniques.

I would describe 'Distant Shores/ Far-away Lands' and 'A Place Out Of Time' as abstracted, or surreal, landscapes. While I didn't intend to make landscapes, the sketches and compositions were leading me in that direction. A lot of times with my work I am following a FEELING more than a literal image, and the paintings take on a life of their own.

With the Mud Flower paintings I was experimenting and feeling outside of my comfort zone! This triptych features realistic botanical elements emerging from an abstracted background that I made with layered, drippy washes (which ironically really felt like a throw-back to some of my earliest paintings) I had a lot of fun making this, but it also was slightly scary to be taking risks.

I hope to see you at the opening, and if you can't make it and would like a private tour, I will be working at the gallery on October 30 from 11-6.
Toby and I are also hosting a mid-week artist talk/community event on the evening of OCT 22. This is a paid event you can sign up for on the Modus website HERE.
