MORE ABOUT DENDROPHILES ANONYMOUS

‘Dendrophiles Anonymous’ as a collection features lush vegetated landscapes, abstracted and composed with ribbons of color and meandering shapes. The seed of this body of work was this painting (below) of mine from 2025 that I was so in love with, and wanted to create more variations of.

{Sound Bath 1, 2026} Available at Galerie Odette (formerly Design Supply Gallery)

As I started making these “knock-off” pieces, the landscapes began to emerge. As a group, they reminded me of the rainforest in Southeast Asia, with the tall towering trees that touch the clouds and all of the dense foliage beneath teeming with life. So many different textures and shapes and colors, all singing together beautifully.

I have tried to not be too representational with these landscapes, but rather translate a feeling through colors and shapes. Toward the end of the process/ painting, as I get closer to finishing a painting, an identity seems to emerge and I embellish the artwork further to match that.

(Penang Hill View Over Straits of Malacca, 2025)

Bringing these pieces to life has been an interesting journey as I've drawn from the bank of past experiences and travels, incorporating essences of new experiences I am hopeful for from places I have not yet visited. It has been somewhat of a shamanic process, foraging the non-local plains for souvenirs to install into the artwork. I have been transformed by the process of developing each painting, as I always am with this wonderful medium. It’s impossible to not be affected emotionally and spiritually by this work.

I have several of these paintings on hand now, and will distributing them to my galleries in the coming weeks. I will be adding new work to this collection throughout the year.
